Conversation at UNC--

Sam- "One thing I do before every flag football game is get the roster of the other team and go on facebook and check them out."
Ashley- "What information could you get from their facebook?"
Russell- "The linebacker's favorite movie is Scarface, watch out for him."
Sam- "No, I mostly just look at their picture, height, weight, and political leaning."
Kara- "Political leaning?"
Sam- "Yeah, like if a guy is conservative, chances are I won't be facing a West Coast Offense."
Alison and Russell at the same time- "Obviously not"

Right now, I'm writing an essay comparing and contrasting 'the definitions of identity and humanity' in the book 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?' and the movie 'Blade Runner'. If I ever say anything bad about college, remind me of this moment.

"The AP English exam is gonna be like, 'compare and contrast the works of Yeats' and I'll be all 'compare and contrast my nuts'."  -Mike Schwartz

Okay, everyone, ready for a virual tour of my dorm room? Great! Because that's just what you're gonna get. In detail. To start out with, I better show you where exactly, I live. And, because I can, I'm going to use the Pioneer's webspace. And away!

THE ONLY UPDATE YOU REALLY CARE ABOUT

To order this out, I've condensed my college update to five concise but important points...

1. I actually have friends! I've accumulated something of a posse and we almost always eat brunch and dinner together, and we've had some crazy adventures. Nothing too crazy, but still sheer madness. Most of them are from out-of-state
2. I made it into the improv team! Out of like 60-70 people who tried out, I was one of seven students to be chosen for the Chapel Hill Players inc. program (CHiPs). It was a lot more nerve-racking than I expected, and the troupe is better than I expected, so I hope I can hold my own with some more practice.
3. I've gotten plugged into Campus Crusade, it's one of the awesomest and most active Christian ministries there is available, and it's got a really great worship environment and nice people. They even managed to make a "Hoedown" passable.
4. I'm going through movie withdrawl. It hurts. The only movies I have here are: Almost Famous and the six I need for Sci-fi class.
5. Fresca got new packaging and two new flavors. I dislike the new packaging, but I am intrigued by both Peach Citrus and Black Cherry Citrus flavors.

So yeah.
It may have been the summer of Russell, but now school is in full swing, and I'm not one to blow against the wind. First day of classes today, and for those who I haven't talked much with (which is pretty much everyone), this is my schedule so far:

1. Introduction to Ethics
2. Religious Autobiographies (I might be dropping this)
3. Perspectives of Western Drama
4. Future Perfect: Science Fiction through Literature and Film
5. Introduction to Women's Studies

You might be thinking- "To what possible major are these leading?" or "Where's the history or math or history?" or "I had no idea Russell was interested in autobiographies or women's studies." and these are all valid questions except for the last one, which is, in fact, a statement. I will address them thusly:
1. I am undecided. Like, more undecided than most other undecided people you meet. I've narrowed it down that I won't be majoring in anything in the natural sciences or mathematics, I think. As such, I'm taking classes to get general credit and to investigate a major, not yet to earn one.
2. Thanks to AP credit and testing, I'm entering UNC with about 41 credit hours. This means that, if I choose, I don't have to take any math, natural science, fine art, or history. I tested into French 4 and will have to take one semester of that before I graduate.
3. Since I'm an out-of-state student, I was in the last orientation and last class registration. This was a bad move. I had to scrounge for leftover classes, and the two of the three required things I wanted to get out of the way (Communications and French) were already full. Oh well, these things happen.

MESSAGE TO THOSE SEXY PLAYERS FROM THE GREATEST STATE---
I've only been here 5 days, but I'm missing all of you in some form or another. I know in my head with full assurance that I'll make friends here and eventually I won't want to leave, but I'm internally comparing the really close friendships I had this past year with the shallow pleasantries I'm exchanging with other students and I'm feeling a bit down. So, if you're reading this (and I've met you), you should feel missed appropriately. And if you're reading this and you're one of the Five, you should feel missed even more.

Don't forget to be awesome.
